WALTER MURCH is a much respected film and sound editor, writer, director and a sound designer. His editing work includes Apocalypse Now, The Godfather Part III, Ghost, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The English Patient and First Knight, starring Sean Connery and Richard Gere. He was the re-recording sound mixer for many of the films he edited, including the above. Walter played a key part in the sound for Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation, including being its sound editor. His career in this area began on the director’s 1969 film, The Rain People and notable work as a sound designer includes Coppola’s The Godfather Part II and Apocalypse Now. He was the first ever person credited in film as a sound designer, for the 1979 Vietnam war epic, which Walter won the first of three Oscars for and is the only winner for both sound and film editing. In the early seventies, he provided the distinctive sound montages for George Lucas’s first two features, THX: 1138 and American Graffiti and wrote the screenplay for the former with Lucas. Other films he was the editor of include Cold Mountain, the third of three Walter worked on with director Anthony Minghella, 1977’s Julia, starring Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave, and Jarhead, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal. Walter co-wrote and directed the 1985 fantasy Return to Oz, as well as an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated series. He has received nine Oscar and BAFTA nominations for his editing and sound work and is the author of the acclaimed 1995 book In the Blink of an Eye and Suddenly Something Clicked, which is published in May 2025 by Faber. They’re both related to Walter’s career and the wider world of cinema.

 

VIC ARMSTRONG is a legendary film and TV stuntman, stunt coordinator and director. He performed memorable stunts in films such as An American Werewolf in London, Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, Flash Gordon, The Long Good Friday, The Omen and the Bond films Live and Let Die, You Only Live Twice and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. His work as a stunt coordinator includes Thor, Mission: Impossible III, A Bridge Too Far, I Am Legend, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and Empire of the Sun and three Bond films starring Pierce Brosnan. Vic was Harrison Ford’s stunt double in eleven films, including the first three Indiana Jones epics, as well as Return of the Jedi, Blade Runner and Witness. He also doubled for Christopher Reeve in the first two Superman films and was also their stunt coordinator.He was a second unit director on TV series’ and films such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Penny Dreadful, Eddie the Eagle, Gangs of New York, Tomorrow Never Dies, Last Action Hero, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Total Recall. Vic had small acting parts in productions such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Space: 1999 and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
