January 18th – BARBARA & The Brighton Beach Boys - 2024
BARBARA & The Brighton Beach Boys
Two amazing bands for the price of 1
Barbara make classic, irresistible pop music with a literary and intellectual approach. Whilst the influence on the music is noticeably American, Barbara’s lyrics are quintessentially British, infused with the inquisitive, satirical spirit of Harold Pinter, George Orwell and Ray Davies. In 2022 Barbara were handpicked by Neil Hannon to support The Divine Comedy on their UK tour, and a year later they played fourteen shows in support of Haircut One Hundred. Neil, Phill Jupitus and Chris Difford are all big fans! For fans of The Kinks, The Lemon Twigs, Electric Light Orchestra and The Feeling.
Barbara live –
“They are so up my street … really tight songwriting, very poptastic!” Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy)
“Barbara are wonderful. I love their songs and their humour. We need more Barbara in our lives!” Chris Difford
“Barbara are an insanely talented band with an innate sense of melody and arrangement … The ambitious scope and toe tapping immediacy of their sound belies their tender years.” Phill Jupitus
The Brighton Beach Boys are an award winning band who specialise in forensic recreations of classic recordings from a cross the history of popular music. Starting from their shared love of The Beach Boys, the band have created Pet Sounds and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as a glorious feast for the ears. They have won the Best Music Event at Brighton Fringe on a number of occasions and the core band includes musicians who have worked with some amazing artists, including Oasis, Stomp and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
“Heart-stoppingly gorgeous … It helps that there was a vast amount of musical talent on stage and the performers were clearly having a ball themselves … the performance was a triumph” The Argus
