ANEESA CHAUDHRY
Aneesa “is a force of nature and a force to be reckoned with. Her voice is extraordinary in so many senses, range, tone, style proving that this is not simply a voice of fashion and there are plenty of those around, but a real voice full of real musical talent and skill – weapon quality! In this lies her power. Given such skill Aneesa can tackle pretty much anything- and does. It means that an evening of song with her is a white knuckle ride of styles and musical genres’.
‘Aneesa Chaudhry is a vocalist with a rare quality that is worth coming out to listen to. She brushes off her ability to swoop from the ethereal high to a low timbre of low that few women can reach. Her original songs Guappa Chica, Sappho’s Bosoom and Letting Go are fun, moving and full of vocal improvisation and vocal percussion’.
Aneesa works as a soloist as well as in duos-quintets (guitar, piano, harp, rhythm sections: piano, bass, drums, horns: saxophones, trumpets, trombones) and full 20
piece big band. She runs 5 community choirs and loves seeing people have a good time at her gigs.

AVIJÉ
The Tehran, Iran born artist grew up as though performing was her second nature. In a culture where family is central, AVIJÉ found her first stage in the living room of her grandmother’s house where her family became her first audience; encouraging their participation in renditions of old Persian songs as she sang and danced to the beat of their clapping hands. Although western satellite was illegal in Iran, her family were able to gain access. Tuning in to channels like MTV she found love in Soul & R ‘n’ B. Creating a unique, infectious sound in an eclectic mix of styles, drawing on soul, dub-reggae, jazz and dance music with sweet whispers of Persian melodies.
In Iran, women’s basic human rights have been stripped away, including the ability to solo perform or dance. With recent developments in Iran regarding the first-ever female-led revolution in history, AVIJÉ uses her privilege of performing as a platform to show solidarity with the women of Iran, bridging the knowledge gap between non- Iranians and Iranians by raising awareness through her music. In 2022, she was awarded funding by The Arts Council for her debut EP due to be released in 2023. Speaking about her debut EP release, AVIJÉ says: “This EP is so special to me because it has adopted elements of new form protest music, it’s a diary that communicates the unspoken emotions of a woman growing up with cultural conflicts, the effects this can have on relationship choices, in my journey of self-reflection & evolution”.
DANIYAL SHAH
So lucky to have Daniyal Shah join us at East Meets West.
https://instagram.com/thedannyexperience?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Enriched with mesmerizing soundscapes of modern electronic sounds and beats. Genres ranging from minimal beats, ambient instrumentals, Indie pop and RnB, unique sound design of luscious pads and syntehsizers. More importantly there is a practical fusion of a mysical and enchanting South Asian Instrument known as the Rubab. The instrument which Daniyal brought from his previous home Pakistan is unfortunately a dying art form. Ancient melodies of the country’s past have seemingly been forgotten. Over the past 15 years, Daniyal has been on a mission of creating a fresh blending fusion of modern music with ancient South Asian instruments.
